Question : Dell Laptop dumping physical memory

Daughter home with her Dell Inspiron Laptop 1100 With Windows XP SP2 Home.  The computer has had not reent hardware or software changes.  Crashed a couple of days at boot with the Blue screen message advising that it was possibly hardware related and to test memory and check graphics card dumping physical memory and that Windows was  shut down to prevent damage.

1:  Crashed again while Norton was scanning (same message).  Ran all updates again and finally scanned once more.....crashed with the same blue screen message.  Uninstalled Norton Antivirus and rebooted.  It crashed while deleting temp files from IE.

2:   Unit has an original equipment 2 year old fujitsu 30 gig hardrive.....downloaded and ran diagnostic testing on Hardrive from Fujitsu.......it passes both quick and comprehensive testing.

3:  Ran a repair install.....still crashes with more and more frequency and there is some scratchy static like noise when windows boots back up

What should I try next.  Appreciate all efforts.

Answer : Dell Laptop dumping physical memory

Ah, my comment crossed with your second one.  So it is an 8E?  Then this is likely to be hardware.  Take a look at the following web page,

http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

which is presented using frames.  Click on the error code (8E) in the left pane of the page, which is a link to the following quotation:

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
“STOP 0x0000008e” Error Message During Windows XP Setup {KB 315335} Win XP
Games: “Stop” Error Message That References Nv4_disp.dll {KB 325730} Flight Simulator, other games (wth Nvidia-based video adapter)
Your Computer Stops Responding When You Use the Highlighter Feature & the Font Color Feature {KB 829578} Win XP

You should go to the actual page in order to read the links given in the quotation above.
