Question : trojan was detected. now pc reboots automatically after booting up

what i have:
dell 4300/512mg ram/win xp
avg antivirus. it was reporting a trojan. but wouldnt clean.
after a few minutes the pc shuts down and restarts

what i have done:
ran avg in safemode. comes up clean
ran trendmicro in safe mode. detects but will not delete
uninstalled avg and installed kaspersky. cleaned up 32 files in safe mode.

i restarted windows normally but it still reboots automatically after about a minute

i am currently running kaspersky in safe mode again.

Did you enable file sharing on the pc with the problem? Make sure the firewall is turned off. Is it running XP Pro or XP Home?

There is one more thing you can try. Boot in safe mode and rename the file  c:\windows\secmon.sys to something else, like c:\windows\secmon.dat
Then reboot in normal mode and see if stay up longer.

I assume you don't have anything like a usb drive or a usb memory stick? That is another simple way to copy files to the other pc.
