Question : Windows Update causing systems to be unresponsive
|
|
About 10% of my network pc's are experiencing an issue with Automatic updates causing the operating system to be very unresponsive. I found a microsoft article that shows how to go in and delete certain windows update files, catalog directory, and software distribution directory for a similar issue. That seemed to work on a few of the systems but others encounter the issue again. I notice on these systems that svchost.exe is running at a high cpu rate. If I disable automatic updates, the problem goes away also. There is no adware, spyware, or viruses involved in these issues at all. Two of them occurred on brand new OS builds. Is there a recent known issue that corrupts automatic updates? If so, what is the sure fire fix?

Answer : Windows Update causing systems to be unresponsive

Sadly, the fix that I have found other than doing a windows update manually is to install the WSUS 3.0 RC.
If the manual update doesnt work, go to start > run > services.msc change Automatic Updates to "disabled" reboot delete c:\windows\software distrobution folder go to start > run > services.msc change Automatic Updates to "automatic" reboot.
