Question : can sql server 2000 send sms to mobile (cell) phones
|
|
can sql server 2000 send sms to mobile phones? the reason is that my team now have to offer support between 5.30am to 9am for a critical daily sql job. when the job fails the proverbial hits the fan. i want to avoid having to physically wake up daily at 5.30 and either VPN or check my email (if we ever get sql mail to work on our production box) and would rather have sql sms my mobile with the result of the job. the job (http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS-SQL-Server/Q_23516662.html) has been running for years but recently its been playing up too frequently for the business (they want it 100% operational of course) if not then is there a freeware tool out there (or very cheap as the management red tape would prohibit anything costing more than a Mac Value meal, we're a finance company)

G'Day frankytee...
There is a brilliant little command line utility that you could invoke as part of the job. even better they are the cheapest SMS messages in Australia... Check out http://www.traitel.com.au/developers.html - they can even provide an SMS Alert system for e-mails, so, all you would have to do is set up an e-mail as part of the job, and then let the SMS alert take over...
Or, if you want to do your own gateway, then have a look at : http://www.gsmfavorites.com/software/smsgw/ - there is also links to SMS software on the left.
For other gatways, and API's, have a look at http://www.smsglobal.com.au/api.html
Also, of great interest at the time when we did http://www.message-media.com.au/sms-gateway.html
I have used trialtel and it works pretty well...
