Question : Windows Mobile Phone - how to sync pop email?

Setting up a new Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone, the AT&T Tilt. My desktop uses Outlook and also pops mail. Using network solutions as the email provider, apparently they only support pop. My question is there is there anyway for email sent from the windows mobile device to sync with the sent items in outlook. As far as I can see, when sending email you have to either choose the pop connection, or outlook, and outlook will only send when connected to a pc? Or am I missing something. AT&T had some 3rd party email thing, but they really didn't know how it would work with syncing.
If I changed to an imap provider and set that up on the phone and outlook, I assume that would work (may not be an option)?
