Question : Windows 2000 User Profile corrupted
|
|
Tried to log on to my PC (Windows 2000 pro) . After enter password error message came up twice saying my user profile is corrupted and I should check with my administrator. I'm the only user on the machine and am the administrator. The system finally came up but most of my desktop applicatons are missing. My Documents folder is empty. I have to reinstall my internet browers. The path C:\Documents and Settings has folders Administrator , Administrator.bak, All Users and nomad2. My system has users ASPNET and Guest are these ok?. I don't have a backup, how can I recover my system?

If you are able to sign in as Administrator (even if it doesn't look correct), create another administrative user. Let's call that account "yunikon". Make sure that you make it an administrator.
Log off of Windows as the actual "Administrator" account and log in as "yunikon".
First, backup the "Administrator" files. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings". Right-drag "Administrator" to a blank area and "Copy Here". You will then have a "Copy of Administrator" folder, which will be an exact copy of the Administrator profile folder.
Next, delete the Administrator profile. This will not delete the account, but will remove the profile and files. Don't worry, you created a backup in the last step. Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab and click "Settings" in the "User Profiles" section. Click the "Administrator" account and "Delete".
Log off as "yunikon" and log back in as "Administrator". It will then re-build your profile. You can then go back to the "C:\Documents and Settings\Copy of Administrator" folder and copy your "My Documents" and "Desktop" files back to their new locations.
