Question : Excel document will not open correctly

My company has recently movied some files around within Sharepoint and now the some, but not all, of the excel files will not open when you click them in the document library.   A DDE error message is thrown, You can work around this by right clicking the link and opening the file in a new tab or saving directly to your harddrive.  I dont understrand why this will not work the usual way.

I would look at exactly what the errors point at.

Are the files that are having issues, have unusally long names and / or some crazy Characters?  Try renaming of of them to someing like 1.xls just for fun and see if it helps.

URL lengths are restricted to 255 characters I think, so if it is a few levels deep and has a long name, it could easily be over that.
