Question : Sender Policy Framework
|
|
Hi,
I work for a large organisation and am just wondering whether any of your guys can offer me advice on SPF.
I would like some Pro's and Con's regrading the framework and how hard it is to implement.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Kev

Hi, It's very easy, as long as you have control of the DNS records for your domain name(s). All it is is an extra record (IN TXT type record) that contains info about the mail servers for the domain. You can create the exact contents for this record through the Wizard at www.openspf.org, and then import the result into your DNS zone. It's rather easy if you understand the basics of DNS. There are no Con's. The Pro's are that e-mails sent by your organization is far less likely to be falsely identified as spam, and that more spam that falsely uses your domain name in the FROM: field, will be detected by spam filters, as long as the receiving server's spam filter uses SPF as well. I strongly encourage everyone to implement it.
