Question : I need to find and delete a file to enable printer driver installation

I've been trying to install a Lexmark X4270 printer on my HP dv6700 laptop running Vista Home Premium.  When I first connected the printer, I installed the software from the CD--unfortunately, it turned out to be an XP driver CD.  I've since downloaded the correct file from Lexmark, but it won't overwrite the previous install.  I've been on the phone for over 2 hours with Lexmark techs to no avail.  It seems that the file Lexbces.exe, apparently the file which starts the LexBce server under services, cannot be located or deleted.  It claims the file is in windows/system32, but doesn't show there.  The only file left in that directory is Lexfiles.ulf.  The tech was unable, even using Lexmark's undelete routines, to remove this file.  This has left me without the ability to print or install the printer.  When trying to delete lexfiles.ulf, I get an "Access Denied" and don't really know if deleting this file will help.  Can anyone lead me to a solution for this?

Dumb question but when running the other disk does it give you a chance to remove the old drivers/software first? I know HP's have some nasty issues of having to user THEIR software to remove anything from the machine (only on some printers). Me personally I would use the system restore function, as long as you didn't turn it off it should take it right back to the state previous before you installed the drivers. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore. So in reality you shouldn't be loosing anything.
