Question : how do I check for existence of record using classic asp when tabbing out of a field?

This has got to be simple... but I know ASP is server side... and I know I can do this using AJAX... but I want to check for the existence of a record when tabbing out of a field using CLASSIC ASP NOT ASP.NET.

Is there a simple solution?

I know is .NET you use RUNAT="SERVER" for the field but in Classic ASP you can't. I can't use .NET so please do not suggest that as a solution. When tabbing out (on the onChange event) can I use AJAX to accomplish this task?  The ID of the table is all I'm checking for. If a person enters TEST and TEST already exists in the PID (Project ID) then I want to display a page or message that says, "This PID already exists, please try again."

Thanks experts...

in checkid.asp all you need to do is execute the following query: <% 'connect to your db here SET conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") conn.Mode=3 conn.Open "connection string here" Set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") rs.open "SELECT id FROM tableName WHERE PID='" & ReQUEST("id") &"'", conn, 1, 3 If rs.EOF Then Response.Write("OK") Else Response.Write("!OK") End If %>
