Question : Import data into Sybase Database from Excel
|
|
Hi
I am currently developing a budgeting tool in Excel and as part of the project I have been asked to research whether it possible to have some link between the budget spreadsheet and our finance databases and although I am comfortable with Excel and Vba, my knowledge of databases is fairly basic.
At the moment the budget is formulated in Excel and then manually input in individual databases at 180 separate, stand alone locations, which is far from ideal and involves a lot of effort.
The finance application is a proprietory package, based on a Sybase SQL Anywhere Database. I would like to know whether it is possible to import that data from Excel directly into the Sybase database and if so how I would go about this and what utilities I would need.
Hope somebody can help
Thanks
Mark

>with it being a commercial database.
Can you establish an ODBC connection to it? The easiest way would be to connectec to it with Access. This way you could look at the database structure and data.
