Question : Boot Problem....Hard Disk Command Failed
|
|
Hello Experts,
My home pc (Win XP) displays a black screen with the American Megatrends logo (www.ami.com) with information about my system. At the bottom of the screen it read "Pri Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. command failed" with the option to Press F1 for setup or Press F2 to continue. I selected F2, but nothing happened. I got another black screen with a blinking cursor. Then I did a hard shut down to reboot.....Got the colorful Intel screen then it went back to the black screen with the same message as before. I googled and ee'd this issue, but didn't find much on what I should do to get my pc running. Any suggestions on were I should begin?
Thanks.

SMART stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology, and basically it's an early warning for hard drive failure. If I were I would not try to get the system running currently, as the longer it does the more likely a total drive failure is to occur. Get a replacement drive, install Windows, then hook up your old drive as a slave and copy your data off of it.
