Question : Best Practice for backing up Exchange 2003.

I currently backup my Exchange 2003 Server using Backup Exec 10 and Im just wondering what best practice is for backing up the Stores. Ive got the Exchange Agent installed into Backup Exec and within the Selection Screen on my daily backup job, Ive checked the Microsoft Information Store and Ive also drilled down to the MDBDATA folder and check all files which reside in there. Im curious as to weather that is necessary?

Any additional advice would be appreciated with regards to backing up the Exchange 2003 Enviroment.

Answer : Best Practice for backing up Exchange 2003.

Of course, if you select Information Store, it will backup Information Store. A full backup will automatically purge all transaction logs which is how it works by design and it is necessary to keep the log files under control.

Do you have an Exchange Agent for BackupExec? If so, you will be able to restore even a single email from backup.

Run a backup and try restoring something and everything will be clear.
