Question : Email Recovery

Hi,
One of our customers decided while installing some of our software, that he should reinstall windows.
He brought the PC to us and asked "where did all my icons go?"
I ran data recovery software n it and AMAZINGLY got back what looks like 99% of all his stuff.
But from the start what he insisted was the most important was his emails.
I recovered several dbx files, but when I try to import them into outlook express, it says they are in use by another application.
Is there some kind of locking mechanism on the files that can be manually un-done in order to open them in outlook express?
As I am sure you can tell - this is a relatively urgent query. HE said he would be back first thing tomorrow morning to pick it up.
I have done 3 restores using different options in the software. I have all 3 copies on a USB HDD, and have started copying his stuff back. ( I thought 3 would be enough variety)
Thanks
Steven

Answer : Email Recovery

Hello Steven,

You need all the files in DBX flder to import emails into Outlook Express,  You need specially folders.dbx

1. Make sure the file is not write protected.  Right click on the file and select Properties.  Make sure "Read-Only" is not selected.

You may need to take ownership of the file

2. You can extract emails from corrupted DBX files in the following manner: Repair Corrupted Emails
