Question : How to cut and paste "non selectable text" from a dialog or error message box?
|
|
At least once a day I see something on my desktop that I want to paste into a Word document.
For instance, an error message says something like "The Microsoft jet database engine could not find the object 'ca 2003 radc7555.tmp.txt'". I want to put that message into Word.
For the last 10 years, I have usually done an alt-prtscr to put a bmp onto clipboard, then pasted the picture. Naturally, this picture cannot be easily modified, or searched.
Several years ago I saw OCR software which had a "lasso" feature for scanning the text into a BMP. But it looked pretty cumbersome and messy, so I didn't buy it.
The 500 point challenge: Can anybody point me to a utility (or a windows feature) that will do this cleanly and easily. For instance, when you delete a file, Explorer asks if "Are you sure you want to send 'my file name' to the Recycle Bin?". I'd like to be able to cut and paste the text into Word in less than 10 seconds.
This has bugged me for 10 years now, I hope some expert can help me out.

Hi rberke, Try SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/features.asp) is has a text capture feature. Not sure if that works the way you want.
