Question : BackupExec 11 and restoring Exchange 2007 mailbox information (individual)

We have tried for the last 2 days to restore some individual emails using the Exchange Backup in BE 11 and we have failed miserably.  Even backupexec has tried for 2 days and they have been unsuccessful.  We keep running out of disk space.  They are telling us that the ONLY way to restore individual mailboxes is to Restore from tape to a Backup to Disk folder.  I don't understand that at all but we did as requested.   We are restoring to a system that has 500 GB (371 free)  we are trying to restore 1 GB of email from a mailbox.   We have allowed for 200 GB of data in the BE restore.  When the restore gets to 40GB restored it fails wit this error.     The backup-to-disk folder that was specified for thei job ran out of disk space.   The backup set has been deleted, and the backup-to-disk folder has been paused.    Can anyone point us in the right direction.   This was much easier in restore mailboxes on Exchange 2003.

Answer : BackupExec 11 and restoring Exchange 2007 mailbox information (individual)

So it looks like you're trying to duplicate the tape backup to disk - and run out of space during the process.

As far as I know you don't need to do this. You should be able to restore directly from tape.

You may know this already, but here it goes:
During the restore from tape, Backup Exec will have to stage (or restore) the complete information store to a temporary staging area. So when you start the restore from tape, you should have free space on one of the disks equal to the amount of space used by the corresponding Information Store.
You specify the disk and path you want to use for this staging process in Tools/Options/Restore/"Path on media server for staging ...".

So make sure this Path is set to the correct disk - with a sufficient amount of free space.
Then start a new restore job to restore directly from tape.

If the duplication job you showed in your previous post failed with an "Insufficient Disk Space" message when duplicating to B2D, while you had 278GB available, I can only assume that you have the "Disk Space Reserve" option set. (Advanced tab in the Properties of the Backup to Disk device).
Set this to 0 to allow Backup Exec to use all disk space.
