Question : SEO - back links versus two way links

Hi,
I am a web designer and most of the websites I create have a site credit linking back to my website. I also have links to these same websites on my portfolio page.
Will I be penalized by Search engines for 2 way links and If so can I improve my ranking by modifying my robots.txt file to exclude my portfolio page from search engines?

No you will not be penalized, and you need to do nothing. It is a great way to start link popularity with a method is very acceptable.
