Question : Reports hang during printing
|
|
I have a pretty large application that is written in VB6, and is using the crystal reports api to create and print the reports. During the evening we print a batch of reports through an exe that gets called during maint. Most clients are printing fine, but we have noticed that the ones that have upgraded to XP Pro can not print. The exe sends the first report to the spooler and it just hangs. I have tried re-writing the reports to not have subreports in the details section. I have also re-written the exe to pause 30 seconds between each printing job. We still encounter the print hanging and it is very sparatic. Is this an xp issue, driver issue, or crystal reports issue? I have looked on the Business Objects site and no luck in finding an answer. We are using Crystal Reports 8 so I can not get any help from them. Any help would be great!!
Thanks, mike

Answer : Reports hang during printing

>>> The thing I was hoping for is to know this is an actual issue with 8, or that there is a list of drivers that version 8 does not like that works with xp
I've seen a lot of different issues in this forum related to CR8 and WinXP, but I haven't seen a comprehensive list of what does and does not work. It's complicated by the fact that some of these situations work intermittently and we (the experts on this site) have never been able to pin down why it works sometimes and not others.
>>> Have you guys seen anything with the spooler in xp having memory issues?
I have seen all kinds of issues related to problems with the xp printer spooler but I'm not enough of an expert on the topic to offer an informed opinion. You might want to poke around the xp forum ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/ ) - there are dozens of postings about print spool problems so it's possible one is related.
Good luck!
