Question : Event ID 1509, Cannot Access Roaming Profile
|
|
A user here cannot access his roaming profile. We use XP SP2 clients on W2K SP4 servers. Everytime he logs in, he is given a temporary profile, and the folowing is entered into the client's application log::
Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1509 Date: 5/29/2007 Time: 2:08:04 PM User: Computer: Description: Windows cannot copy file to location . Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - The filename or extension is too long.
The file in question does not exist; he was working on it earlier but the computer crashed. The full path to the file does not exist because the length is too long to create the name of the final folder in the path. The file is unimportant, we just want to get him back onto his roaming profile.
Thanks in advance.

Answer : Event ID 1509, Cannot Access Roaming Profile

Create a new profile for him by renameing the profile folder on the server. Once he logs in and the new profile is created you can copy the important files over to the newly created profile from the old profile folder.
