Hi everyone, I am a RIS guy. Had RIS working on my 2003 servers to deploy XP for some time now. I just updated to R2 and decided to play with Windows Deployment Services and of course my automated installation file isn't working anymore (farewell .sif files...) .
In looking at the options for WDS, I noticed it didn't look like there was an option to deploy images based on the installtion disks like I was used to in RIS. It seems more like the images you create are copied from installs on machines. With RIS, you didn't have to have machine based images, so you could use one generic image which detected the hardware and installed the appropriate drivers. It looks to me that WDS makes machine specific images - which is what something like ghost would do. I am looking to avoid having to create all sorts of images here, so could someone please let me know if there is an option in WDS which gives you a RIS like setup?
If not, could someone let me in on how the heck to get an unattended install file that works with WDS and XPSP2? Is there some tool out there to make those unattended.xml files?
Thanks!
