Question : Dirty Filesystem

NT Filesystems can become marked "dirty".  To clean up the filesystem one runs "chkdisk -f" and this schedules a chkdsk to be run at the next boot before the filesystem is mounted.  With todays disks approaching HUGE sizes, a filesystem with many thousands of files can take many hours to check, with the system remaining unusable until finished.  Is there some utility that can get to the issue faster than Microsoft's chkdsk?
