Question : Something constantly trying to access internet - asking to work offline

I have an annoying problem with my computer
It is an digital audio workstation running xp pro and has never been connected to the internet
Very often an alert box will appear - 'Work offline -  no connection to the internet is currently available etc...'
I am figuring that something is trying to connect to the internet for an update or something - its just that it gets very annoying when it happens every 5 minutes

Is there anyway to find out what program is trying to connect to the internet and disable that ?
Or is there any way to just suppress the alert box?

I have disabled the onboard ethernet in the bios, i have removed and disabled all the  internet connections i could find

I'm thinking maybe there is a service i could disable - I would try but i don't want to mess around to much without some advice first

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Answer : Something constantly trying to access internet - asking to work offline

could be one of a number of things, is there an antivirus or a printer driver that would want to update? What about Windows update?

Here's are lists of services it is probably safe to disable:
