Question : My XP Pro machine just "shuts off" and immediately reboots at random when running Windows XP SP3. Could it be something with the "dump"?
When running Win XP SP3 my computer reboots at random, often during the middle of something. It did not do it when using MaxBlast to clone one disk to another, for it was on several hours for this. But if I leave it on regularly, with the icons and wallpaper showing, it will not go more than an hour without the rendom reboot. Also, when it boots up I have to reset the screen resolution and refresh rate, and the "winlogon.exe" error keeps showing. I'm so frustrated that I'm going to do a clean install (of everything, darn it) on another machine, but I still want to keep this one for back up. Besides, I want to know what is causing this. (Also, I put in a new power supply, and no luck there.) When the machine is not re-booting, it works well and I can use all my programs -- but of course I never know when it will reboot on me. Some mentioned that "dump" might be at fault.
