OptiPlex GX745
Having problems with loss of video at start up, no icons when logging in and no network card. Solution as follows:
1. Turn OFF any SATA controller that has an optical drive in the BIOS. This is generally SATA-1 (SATA-0 will be your hard drive). Also disconnect any external peripherals other than mouse, keyboard and monitor.
2. You should now be able to boot Windows into Normal Mode. 3. Now, you will need to flash the BIOS to the latest version (even if you are on the current version, please re-flash the BIOS). You will want to do this while the SATA-1 controller is still disabled.
4. Boot Windows into Normal Mode again. 5. Download and install the sevinst.exe update from Symantec's web site. The link is as follows: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/1998092408260848?Open&docid=2006103112061748&nsf=ent-security.nsf&view=0&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us
6. Change the Auto-Protect Startup option to Symantec Antivirus. To do this, start Symantec Antivirus, click Configure > File System Auto-Protect. Click Advanced. In the Startup options section, click Symantec Antivirus start. Click OK. Restart the computer.
7. Once Windows comes back up again reboot again in normal mode and then if all is well then boot into the bios and re-enable the sata controller that was disabled in step 1 and reboot the system normally and it should boot up fine
Let me know if you still have problems after completing these steps.
