Question : Apache webserver keeps stopping

I have a VPS under plesk/virtuosso control panel.
The apache webserver imtermittently keeps stopping and all the websites hosted cannot be reached.
It comes back okay if I restart the HTTPD service.

Unfortunately I am an absolute novice With FedoraCore 2, Linux, so would really appreciate some assistance in basic troubleshooting and resolution to this problem.

both pointed me in the right direction
By examiniing the log files  It tranpires that the server was under a bot attack (too many connections from the outside)
