Question : Boot.ini missing in action

So I thought I needed more than 4 GIG of Ram, bought 12 total, machine max.  Reboot, only 4 showing.  Decide I need to edit the boot.ini file.  Can't find it.  Made sure all system operating files were viewable, and they are, (unchecked in folder options, and can see pagefile, autoexec, etc).

Any ideas where this file might be, or, a way to make my 12 Gig of expensive RAM usable.

if still not there you can still edit it by going to system properties > Advanced > Edit
