Question : Username/Password greyed out at login prompt
|
|
Username/Password greyed out at login prompt on server/desktop. We are seeing multiple users PCs and servers having this issue where after ctrl-alt-delete the username and password is greyed out. I googled this and found some things about VNC being the culprit. You can RDP into the server still. I had VNC on the server but have had the service disabled for awhile now. The fix to this is to reboot the machine. I need to login local to that server and cannot reboot it. Anyone have any fixes? I can RDP into it.

Here is what I have found.
This link has some potential: http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2006-October/056174.html
The remainder of what I found has to do with Gina.dll and MSGina.dll and how VNC interacts with it.

I found loads of docs at MS knowledge base site searching for the two dll's. A few look like they have potential but I would have to build a lab and recreate the error to determine if they are viable.
In the end, it may be faster to schedule a reboot, then upgrade you VNC client.
I hope this is useful.
