Question : Symantec Antivirus on ES 2003

I've lived with a memory leak requiring me to restart my ES 2003 every 7 days.  I'm somewhat confident the leak is related to the Symantec AV loaded on the machine.  The leak is now getting worse and I would like to update the Symantec AV or switch to a another AV vendor.  Our entire system has Symantec AV.  Two things to consider is that we will be totally rebuilding ES on a new machine in about 3 months and that I don't want to do anything which poses any risk to continued operations.  The Symantec I have installed on the Windows 2003 Server with ES 2003 areL

Under programs I have a listing for  "Symantec AVF for Exchange " and another listing for "Symantec Client Security".

Symantec Event Manager
Symantec Network Drivers Service
Symantec Password Validation
Symantec Settings Manager

My documentation tells me I have ES 2003.  How do I confirm that?  Is Symantec incorrectly installed and how do I fix that?  Thanks in advance

I would probably agree that the Symantec software is the problem. Whether it is a memory leak or by design is debatable, but it certainly uses more memory than it should be.

You have two Symantec products installed.
The Exchange product is integrated in to Exchange and provides protection for the email. That product is notorious for causing problems.
The Symantec Client Security is the same as what you will have on your desktops.

In some cases, removing both and then rebooting then reinstalling the latest version will resolve many problems.
In most cases though removing both and installing something that works is a better choice.

You can tell if you have Exchange 2003 by looking in Exchange System Manager. Right click on your server and choose Properties. The version number is shown. If it is 6.5.x then it is 2003.
Do NOT choose Help, About in ESM as that just shows you version number about ESM, not Exchange.
