Question : Missing AOL Personal Filing Cabinet- lost e-mails
|
|
I recently had a crash and had to reformat my c drive. Thankfully, I had recently copied nearly all of my files to an external hard drive. I copied my entire program files folder over to the external drive, thinking I would have all of the files I needed in case anything went awry with the reinstallation of my files. I am in the process of transitioning to gmail, but had my last 5 years of e-mail through AOL. Therefore, I was reinstalling AOL 9.1 again, and it did not find any versions of AOL on my machine. I have done this before, and that generally did no pose a problem. In the past, I was easily able to restore my AOL emails from a folder called "organize" that was located inside the AOL Program File folder. Apparently, the organize folder is no longer stored inside the AOL folder. When I research the topic, it apparently now is (was) located within the All Users folder (in Documents and Settings folder) instead. Unfortunately, I did not copy the All Users file to the backup drive. Therefore, I have no "organize" folder located anywhere. (In addition, there are no .abi files located in the old AOL folder either). The only folder I can find that may be of some help is called "restore" (which is located in a folder called "backup) and contains some large files called comp01.000 and comp02.000 that I hope may contain my deleted e-mails. Is there any way to restore my old e-mails, or am I out of luck? (PS- running Windows XP)
