Question : Troubleshooting offline files synchronization - 2 users with empty offline folders on same day
|
|
Two users who left the office at the same time found their my documents folder empty upon arriving at their destination. What configuration or environmental causes should I look for? There is also complaints that the 1GB network is slow sometimes when closing Outlook (also synchronizing with large attachments) Win2k3 server and XP Pro clients. One thing that has been done since the issue occurred is to use the registry setting to clear the csc cache.

>>A robocopy script requires user intervention
So does offline files, when the workstation loses touch with the server So does offline files, unless your users don't like the choice of synchronizing before logoff
Another reason I don;t like offline files is the lag when using files off a server
>>which in my opinion is far more likely to cause problems than something that is properly configured.
Which is exactly that, your opinion. It is my opinion, and experience, that Offline Files are as useful as DFS (Pre R2). If that makes no sense, don't sweat it.
But hey, I am not trying to convince you - I don't care what you do. The beauty of a life not bound to wizards is something I recommend to you, and anyone.
The asker has a choice to either believe you that he has done something wrong, or believe me and Netman that there is a better way.
