Question : Windows Vista and WebCT
|
|
Hi, I have just bought a new dell laptop which came with windows vista. I'm a student and my unversity uses WebCT for thier online course work.
I'm having a great deal of trouble of with WebCT now and a look around the internet is not providing very helpful, as vista is so new. The onlything I have found is other people with vista have the same problem.
When I go to logon, i just see a white screen, which never progresses to the members section.
it sits on the URL: https://online.mq.edu.au/webct/ticket/ticketLogin?action=print_login&request_uri=/webct/homearea/homearea%3F
and if i change that manually to https://online.mq.edu.au/webct/homearea/homearea?
it logs in fine - and i can navigate (although iLectures still dont work - but that MIGHT be a different issue)
Might this be a setup issue with vista? Ie something I can change? Or would it be WebCT?
Any suggestions? Please!!

Answer : Windows Vista and WebCT

Okay I've found the issue. It's because the version of Java that can work with WebCT (Java 5.0 Release 8) is not compatible with Vista. Vista will only work with release 11 upwards.
That's a bit useless of them!
Well until they fix it (because they'll have to eventually with vista users on the increase) you could use VirtualPC to run a copy of XP from inside Vista. It won't run fast and it's quite a lot of effort for quickly popping onto WebCT, but it should work.
It's free though: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx
