Question : constant errors with corrupt files
|
|
I built a computer with an 80GB WD hard drive. Asus p4s800, 512 mb crucial ram. 2.8ghx p4. Running Windows XP Home. I have a DVD ROM, DVD Burner. 1.44 Floppy. ATI Radeon AGP 7000 video card. Antec Case w/ power smart power supply- 350watts. My problem is never ending. A week after I built it it started to have trouble with missing or corrupt files. Then after serveal re-installs it seemed to be ok for several weeks. Now I started it up this morning and got a missing file error -- ntoskrnl.exe , I rebooted and it came back with BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error. So I tried to do a repair using the windows cd and it kept failing with missing files. So I re-booted again to try the last good config again and it came back with this error - PCIIDEX.SYS , After that I decided I may need to re-install again. But I want to know why I will run for weeks before a different error comes up. The last stop error was , stop: 0x0000007E ( 0xc000001D,0xF87B96C0, 0xF894C2C4, 0xF894BFC0 ) address F87B96C0 base at F87B5000, Date stamp 41107B4C.
I have run the WD hard drive check and the drive passed. I ran memtest86 and it ran many passes and it did not find any errors. I use McAfee antivirus. And Spybot S&D, and Ad-AwareSE. Can it be a bad motherboard or a bad windows disc? I used the upgrade cd and put in my win 98 disc to get the upgrade to install. I cannot even get into safe mode, it keeps bringing me back to the BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error. I have even taken out the battery to clear the cmos. I do not over clock. I am using Windows Home with SP2. All windows updates are current. mobo temp is 80.5 F, and the CPU temp is 115 F, The voltage is Vcore- 1.39v, 3.3v is 3.28v , 5v is 5.02v, and the 12v is 11.90v . I get 1 beep as it posts.
Thanks , John

The Windiag program generates a boot floppy and runs from that. (Of course, you would need to have another computer to download to, run it, and create the floppy. But I am presuming you do, since you are asking a question on Experts-Exchange.)
