Question : C drive shows as 13.4GB used, but adding folders is 11.7GB

My C drive ( a 15GB partition of a larger disk) is showing 13.4GB used and 1.16 GB free. Yet when I look at the contents of C they add to 11.7 GB. I could do with finding the the other 1.5GB if it is free.
I have ticked display the contents of system folders adn show hidden files and folders.
There are several KB size files plus one pagefile.sys 1.99GB There are also a few very small folders and 4 with significant size. Documnets and Settings 0.98 GB Program Files 2.2GB Recycler 0.39GB WINDOWS 6.16 GB
Total 11.7GB

The additional space is NOT virtual memory => the pagefile is already accounted for (as noted in the question). Download TreeSize and see if it helps you identify what might be using the additional space. http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml
Do you have system restore enabled? If so, it may be responsible for the additional space ... and you can easily recapture the space by simply disabling it.
If you need to free up more space than you can achieve by simply deleting current files, it's relatively simple to resize the partition if there is enough space on the disk to do a bit of partitioning restructuring. If you want to do that, post the current partition structure (how many partitions; the current sizes and the amount of free space on each) and I can show you how to restructure the disk to add space to C:
