Question : MSISYS.VXD and HwInfod.VXD Win98
|
|
Each time I run SFC on two computers, running Win98, though configured differently, two files are consistely reflected as changed (not corrupted), and the version number remains unchanged, before and after ... ie. MSISYS.VXD is v.4.03. I assume that the MSISYS.VXD is reflected as changed each time I run the MS System Information tool to run SFC, but not sure. I am guessing that HWINFOD.VXD only reflects hardware changes, but not sure. No problems, just wondering if I'm the only one with these two recurring files reflected as changed, and any insight you may have, ie purpose of files.
I'm assuming this is easy, thus 50 points, will adjust if inappropriate value.

Hi Astaec!
Here's the history on the file you mentioned along with its associated files.
The ActiveX control (.ocx) associated with the utility creates and updates these files with a .vxd extension in the :\\System folder. For the Dr. Watson, Hardware Info, Microsoft System Information, and Windows Report Generator tools there are 3 files that are created with the .vxd extension: - Drwatson.vxd - Hwinfod.vxd - Msisys.vxd
Generally, the version for this file (current update) should be 4.03 with a file size of approximately 10.9K (11,183 Bytes) The original date and updated date will change each time these tools are run, thus you are correct!
