Question : NEC VERSA M300 notebook is acting different after bios update

Hey experts,

I have a fairly old NEC notebook which is VERSA M300 P4 1.90Ghz running on Win XP. I'm hoping to use it as a spare computer for my work. I'm not very knowledgable in computers but I've heard that keeping the computer up-to-date is always good. So I've got all the updates to it through Microosoft and the latest drivers from an NEC website including the bios update.

http://202.188.160.140/user/user_drivercat.asp?product_category=Notebook&model_series=VERSA%20M%20Series&model_id=130

I was able to successfully install the drivers except the bios update. I burnt a blank cd with the bios update. As instructed I kept the cd inside the cd/dvd rom and restarted. After the completion of the bios update, everytime the notebook is switched on a very disturbing "beeping" noise comes from the speakers and goes to the bios setup. Then I have to select "exit discarding changes" in the "EXIT" menu to go out from the bios setup to go to the windows xp otherwise if i select "exit saving changes" option it comes back to the bios setup.

A friend of mine told me later that it is highly risky to update the bios, which i didnt know earlier. I cannot take this to the NEC agents or manufacturers to get it rectified 'coz there isn't a place available in the area i'm living now.

So experts please suggest me things i can do to get the notebook to go to windows xp straightway without having to go through bios setup.

Thanking in advance

Answer : NEC VERSA M300 notebook is acting different after bios update

can you flash back to the old bios version?
And by now you know why i only suggest to  do a bios update only as last resort - and when needed.
The same goes for updates - don't update if everything is ok !!
