Question : Frontpage Server Extensions Errors
|
|
Oh pooh! I rested too soon.
I was kind of sort of dealing with this in this issue: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/WebDevSoftware/Visual_Interdev/Q_21532117.html
But this is really unrelated so a new post....
I created a new website and deleted the troubled website around 3PM. I reloaded front page extensions, etc. I did setup my admin, iisuser, and iwam user permissions appropriately.
At 3 I have this error: Event Type: Warning Event Source: FrontPage 5.0 Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 8/19/2005 Time: 3:00:28 PM User: N/A Computer: SSWEB Description: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error #20015 Message: Cannot open "docicon.xml": no such file or folder.
Then this: Event Type: Warning Event Source: FrontPage 5.0 Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 8/19/2005 Time: 3:00:28 PM User: N/A Computer: SSWEB Description: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: (OS Error #2 Message: No such file or directory)
Then, starting at 3:11, 4:11, 5:11, 6:11, 7:11, 8:11 and 9:11 I am getting these 2 alerts in the Application event viewer, every hour:
Event Type: Information Event Source: FrontPage 5.0 Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 8/19/2005 Time: 3:11:00 PM User: N/A Computer: SSWEB Description: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error reading IIS default Vroot info
Event Type: Warning Event Source: FrontPage 5.0 Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 8/19/2005 Time: 3:11:00 PM User: N/A Computer: SSWEB Description: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error #3005f Message: Unable to read configuration for Microsoft Internet Information Server.
There are no new errors in the System log since then.
I have not personally done anything every hour on the hour to cause those errors.... No maintenance that I know of runs on the hour, etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Answer : Frontpage Server Extensions Errors

1. Error #20015 Message: Cannot open "docicon.xml": no such file or folder. --> this says that something on your web server is calling a file called docicon.xml and it either doesn't exist on the server or doesn't exist in the location the extensions expect it to be. Do 2 things here. Search your system for this file. Download Filemon from www.sysinternals.com and find out what is calling this file and where it is trying to find it.
2. (OS Error #2 Message: No such file or directory) --> Believe this is related to the first error.
3. Error reading IIS default Vroot info --> See 4
4. Error #3005f Message: Unable to read configuration for Microsoft Internet Information Server --> 3 and 4 are related messages. They're saying that your web site can't access IIS information they need to function correctly. MS says this can be sorted out by changing the Application Isolation for your website to Low on IIS 4 or Medium on IIS 5. This is set in the properties of each individual website in IIS Manager. I have also seen comments that this has occurred when the Sharepoint Administration Web (which you use to manage frontpage extensions on your server) is not running - if this is the case, [stopped] will appear beside it in IIS manager. Would recommend you start it. If neither of these apply, filemon may also assist in the case. It will show where you are getting an access denied message and what is triggering it.
