Question : Large paging file

My computer came with a 6 GB hard drive.  I have installed an external 300 GB hard drive.  I have moved as much stuff as I can over to the external drive, NtUninstall folders, old java upgrades, etc.  Every morning, first thing, I run "Crap Cleaner", then defragment with "Diskeeper".  I've benn running the internal drive with 26% free space or so.

Today, in the middle of some emailing, a message box popped up telling me that I had insufficient "virtual memory", an that XP was going to expand my "paging file".  That took a while.

Now I am down to 20% free space on the internal drive.  Explorer reports that the pagefile.sys is 680 MB.

What is the best thing I can do to free up space on the internal drive?  I've deleted unwanted stuff, but there is a lot in there about which I have idea at all what it is.  And I'm afraid to mess with folders I know nothing about.

Answer : Large paging file

Why not buy a new drive and image the existing drive to the new larger one?  You will always be fighting this issue.  Pretty soon you won't even be able to perform windows updates.

You can move your pagefile to the external drive.  Is it USB 2.0?, if not it would be slow.
Here is a good site on the pagefile:

Don't spread it across multiple disks as it suggests, just put it on the external drive.
