Hi everyone, I managed to resolve my ris issue. There were a series of issues, regarding gpmc, sis, partiton issue, hdd issue and pxe issue. in the end after consultation from another expert as all I wished to do was prove that ris does work and without gpmc, which it did.
Install win server 2003
always use adminstrator account, just to prove ris actually works and then investigate other user accounts and test later, of which I have not tried but presumably as long as a user account has been created and added to the relevant domain object ie the domain server your using. In my case ive installed temporarily everything on one server.
- install sp2
- setup ad
setup dns
setup dhcp
- ensure you xp image specifically is on a separate partition to the c:\ or it will say during risetup that this is not allowed.
-run risetup - follow on screen prompts
infor: when you have done the above and followed all screen prompts without adding anything yourself and leaving everything as default settings. this should be ok
Client pc
- reboot client pc
- ensure all settings in bios are set to pxe, dhcp & network is set. also ensure actuall hdd is set to boot from network otherwise ris will not work.
- click f10 to save and client pc will reboot
- depending on how up to date you pxe software on client pc is your pc may not need any additional prompts from yourself, but follow through anyway.
- press f12
- enter all logon details as shown
- follow on screen prompts and just wait and eventually you will see xp install.
- if pc does not appear to reboot, just leave for a few hours just incase and if nothing. reboot pc yourself, just like i did and low and behold xp starts to continue to install.
all done.
