Question : Re-join a member server to a new domain controller same domain

Hi -

I've looked all over the web, can't find the answer - maybe cause it's too simple but I don't dare try anything stupid.  Our server crashed.  We got a new server and rebuilt it with the same name and same domain and same ip.  But, all the XP clients had to be re-joined to the domain (new profile) and my member server needs to be re-joined also.  But, when I go to 'My computer' properties to add it to the domain (first took it out by joining a workgroup), it won't let me - says 'specified user already exists'.  I tried renaming it - did same thing.  I tried deleting the computer from AD on the DC, but it says I need to use 'DCPROMO' to do that.  DCPROMO on that server just brings up an option to install AD - it's not a DC.  Can you help?
