Question : Public Folder Replication still sending to smarthost
|
|
I have an Exchange server at both my site and a satellite office and am trying to configure Public Folder Replication, but nothing ever seems to replicate. The messages just seem to sit in a queue named after the FQDN of the satellite server.
My ISP rang me the other day asking why I had a connection trying to send a whole bunch of emails from [email protected] and, after reading some notes on one of Sembee's pages (http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp) reckoned it was probably due to the smarthost configuration on my Virtual SMTP.
I've removed this and replaced it with an SMTP Connector, as per another of Sembee's articles (http://www.amset.info/exchange/smtp-connector.asp) and regular mail still seems to route correctly via the smarthost, but the ISP is still receiving all the SERVER1-IS@ mails.
What else might I have overlooked?

Check for any third party tools that could be doing the sending of the email. After removing the smart host, did you restart the SMTP service service? If not, do that.
Ensure that the names on the SMTP virtual server FQDN field resolve correctly and not to the ISP.
Check that you can telnet to port 25 of the other server using IP address, name and FQDN and it is the other server answering.
