Question : Image rollout
|
|
I have refined my question a bit since last time after a lot of trial and error.
This is what I'm trying to achieve.
1 Base Image created with open license software installed, static IP. We have created an image of this machine and would like to roll this out on to 25 identical machines. We have Symantec Ghost Solution 2.0 installed and running on a server.
The 25 desktops will be factory new.
What is the best solution that involves the least interaction on the machines?
Issues that are apparent is the computer name's, IP settings and automatically adding them to the domain.
Very grateful for guidence.

Answer : Image rollout

We use SMS now, but used Ghost for a number of years before hand, overall I still use the same procedure.
First I build a Windows XP image, with Adobe, Office, Java etc.. the computer is still in a workgroup Then using the Sysprep.inf I posted above, I place this in C:\Sysprep folder along with sysprep.exe and setupcl.exe, change the Sysprep.inf as required. I than run the command C:\Sysprep -bmsd this builds mass storage devices into the Sysprep.inf Once completed I then use the following command C:\Sysprep\Sysprep.exe -reseal -mini -pnp -quiet Once completed the computer will shutdown Reboot the compute with a Ghost Boot disk and take the disk image Now deploy to a new machine, it doesn't require anything else. The new computer should start, display a mini setup program, during this stage, it will use plugin play to install drivers, create a new SID, Join the Computer to the Domain. Once completed the User just logs in, that's basically it.
Cheers
