Question : Best ecommerce platform

Hi experts.
I have a new project!!!I have to make an eshop for a client and I was wondering if you could suggest me some ecommerce platforms.
I prefer open source platforms but there is no problem for platforms that cost $500 max.

Hi, I've used the most stable release of oscommerce on a number of sites, all running ssl and are plugged into external 3rd party payment processors and all run very successfully.  As long as you keep the credit card details away from your own storage facilities then you shouldn't experience issues.  There are also thousands of freely available components as contributed by other users which extend the functionality.
