Question : Editing an Excel spreadsheet from a web page?
|
|
I am using FP2000 to edit my web. The server does have FP extensions installed. Basically what I want to be able to do is to have an Excel document (xls) sitting on the web server and allow users to edit it online and be able to save their changes. I have tried adding a simple hyperlink to the xls file and IE opens the file using a plug in. I can edit the file in the plug in but cannot really save very easily over the original. It is not the permissions of the file, I have full access. Is there some cool way of using ASP perhaps to do this rather than to have a hyperlink to the document and have to use the IE plug in to open it? I would appreciate any ideas on this.

Web Folders/Network Places would be easier.
They define the subweb you create as a web folder/network place. They open Windows Explorer, click on Web Folders/Network Places, pick the URL, get the logon box, logon, drag the file to the desktop, double-click to open it, save the changes, drag it back to the web server using the open Windows Explorer window.
Takes longer to write out than to do. I copy web files back and forth like this all the time.
But don't even try using IE. It's not going to work the way you want. Browsers aren't designed to work that way.
