Question : Cannot stop Exchange Store service

I have Exchange Server 2003 SP2 on a SBS 2003 SP2 server
Whenever I have to do maintenance which requires the stopping of the Exchange Store service, it fails. To get the store service stopped, I have to change it's startup property to disable & then restart the server. This is irritating and time consuming. Any ideas?

The server has 1.5 Gb RAM. I run Sohpos AV and Pure Message, latest versions.

Most of the time I see this probably it is caused by something else interfering with the process. AV and antispam would be the first culprits.
Therefore I would suggest trying to stop the AV services first and then see if the store stops. If the AV services being stopped allows the store to stop gracefully, then that is your problem.
