Question : MS Excel - copy formulas to non-adjacent cells
|
|
Hi - Is there any way to expedite this process. There are blank cells and other formulas between the cells that I need to copy the formula from/to.
Strongly Agree "Agree " Neither agree nor disagree "Disagree " Strongly Disagree 9 (90%) 2 (10%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) (0%) 10 (100%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) (0%) 10 (100%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%)
In this example - I would like to auto fill formula that results in 9 to formula in 2, 0, 0, 0. horizontally Also, auto fill formula that results in 90% to formula 10%,0%,0%,0%. Horizontally There are also empty cells between the populated cells. Thank you.

Let's step back and see what you're trying to achieve. Is it the percentage you're getting from the score, or the score you're getting from somewhere else?
Would I be right in assuming that each of those results (percentage or score), you're taking a proportion of a total, and either rebasing it as a score, or reporting it as a percentage?
If so, what you have is a formula that says something equivalent to =ThisValueCell/TotalValueCell, and you want to be able to copy that formula to all the other places where it is used, but the formula is also moving the reference to 'TotalValueCell'?
If that is the case, you have a couple of choices - you either have to fix the location of the total by using an absolute reference (so, if your formula is (say) =A3/Z3, then you would use =A3/$Z$3 (fix columns and rows), or =A3/Z$3 (just fix row) or =A3/$Z3 (fix just columns), depending how your totals are positioned, and where you want to copy from/to.
Alternately, if you have a small number of totals, name each total as a range (use Insert, Name, Define), so (in the same example), you would give the name Total1 (say) to cell Z3. Your formula then becomes =A3/Total1. When you copy, the reference to the named range doesn't get adjusted, so if you copy it to C3, the formula will say =C3/Total1.
If this isn't what you're trying to do, we need some more information.
