Question : Better than fraps

Hi,

I have recently purchased fraps, which seems to record at 1024x768.  To find this out, I opened fraps and recorded a movie.  Then I hovered the mouse over the movie file it created---the tooltip said 1024x768.  When I view the movie fraps creates, the in-game text is readable.

The next thing I did was go to Movie Maker in Windows and imported the movie and then clicked "Save to my computer".  After the movie got saved, I hovered the mouse over it just like before.  But this time the movie is 640x480.  When I view this movie the text is not readable---i.e. blurry.

Is there any way to create the movie at the higher resolution so the text is readable?  Do I need something better than fraps or something better than Movie Maker?

I'm looking for something free(or at least cheap) if possible.

Answer : Better than fraps

fraps can record up to 1152x864, you just have to set your monior that high.

but, I have a feeling that resaving your AVI with WMP is a bad idea. They sugest downloding http://www.virtualdub.org/ virtual dub and encoding your AVI with this encoder. read this page to findd out more. http://www.fraps.com/faq.php#videocap
