Question : Exchange 2007: Bringing an SCR replica online

Hi All,

I am trying to configure a passive Exchange 2007 node using Standby Continuous Replication so that if the active node fails, the passive node can then act as a fail-over.

After followed the required setup steps, running the "Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus -standbymachine PassiveNode" command on the active node's Exchange Shell yields a Healthy status for each of the 4 storage groups being replicated.

The replication appears to be working correctly (Status: Healthy, CopyQueueLength: 0, ReplayQueueLength: 50 and LastInspectedLogTime is bang up to date) for each storage group.

Now I wish to prepare the node for recovery so that in the case of an active node failure, getting everyone back online is a simple few-step process. The Database Portability recovery option is suitable in my case. I found the steps to this type of recovery on the net, and it says that it is necessary to create recovery databases, mount them once etc.

However, when I do this, the replication stops working and the microsoft replication service on the passive node goes mental and stops/starts constantly. To fix this problem i had to disable and re-enable the replication for each storage group. Why does this happen?

I basically want to get to the point where everything is set up so that in the case of a problem with the  active server, it is simply a matter of "one-click back online" kind of thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Preferably i would say that lets keep the SG name with DR as well for no further problems ...

and then when the active server goes down, just rename it to the original active node db name:
StoreA-F (Storage Group on Passive Node in Recovery Mode)
MailboxesA-F.edb (Mailbox database on Passive Node in Recovery Mode)
Yes you can do that as well ........

Just try with Database portability with a test SG and DB and see what happens.... that would give you a better and clear picture ...
