Question : XP Speaker Configuration - forced to 7.1 on boot?
I have a computer that will be used in a planetarium to run and synchronize media presentations. This computer's soundcard is setup to playback 7.1 audio. In order for the soundcard to send the audio to the correct channels, the speaker configuration on boot needs to always start as 7.1. There have been a few times when re-booted that the speaker configuration has reset to 2 channel, this causes all eight channels to be folded into two. In addition, because there is SMPTE timecode involved in sychronizing the planetarium hardware, this sounds horrible (not to mention the fact that because the SMPTE isn't being directed to the correct channel, the planetarium show is out of sync.)
Is there a way to make sure that this parm is set correctly with every boot? Maybe a script or a .bat file that could be ran?
Thanks for your help.
Answer : XP Speaker Configuration - forced to 7.1 on boot?
P.S. My registry settings may be different than your 7.1 setup. The Speaker Configuration = 7 should do your 7.1 setup but change it to the settings you want and then check the settings in this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM
\CurrentCo
ntrolSet\H
ardware Profiles\0001\System\Curre
ntControlS
et\Enum\PC
I\VEN_8086
&DEV_24D5&
SUBSYS_E00
28086&REV_
02\3&267a6
16a&0&FD\D
irectSound
\Speaker Configuration]
This way you can be sure it is set how your needs are and not how my speaker setup is.
