Question : WinXP hangs at shutdown with System Event Notification service running

Windows XP Pro at SP3 installed on a new Dell E5500 Core 2 Duo Latitude Laptop.  It originally had Visa basic on it.  I wiped it and installed XP Pro for my customer.

The primary problem is that the computer wont shutdown unless I stop the Windows System Event Notification Service.  The customer is also having some problems installing programs, but Ill have to see which ones and get back to you.
Thanks,
Al

Answer : WinXP hangs at shutdown with System Event Notification service running

Good news about the fix - one of my big gripes with Dell laptops is they are so fussy about what order utilities are installed in and this is probably another example of that!

Control Point has three strands:
- Security - driving TPM like the fingerprint reader
- System - hooking into ACPI and running the little light sensor on the screen frame
- Connection - running the wireless connection

You can install/remove each separately.

As far as wireless goes I tend to find the Dell software works well with the integrated/Mini-PCI cards they use so leave it to manage connections - it's really whichever you feel happiest with Windows or Dell running your connection :)
