Question : "An invalid server name was specified." error using Remote Web Workplace

I've been fighting the problem for a while, and have done quite a bit of searching.  Either I'm just missing the answers or there is something else going on in this computer.

When trying to access a RWW, it thros the "An invalid server name was specified." error when you try and connect to a computer.  The RWW website is working correctly, other comptuer on the same lan work just fine, it is know that the problem is with this computer.

I've looked at all the IE security settings regarding Active-X controls and they all appear to be right.  Zone settings all that jazz.  --  But if someone knows the magic one that is required I'd be happy to double check that one.

This is a new computer and came with SP3 installed, so it can't be uninstalled, nor can RDC 6.0 be uninstalled.

I don't believe Spybot or any malware programs other than Trend-Micro Worry Free have ever been installed.  (But I'm not the primary user so I can't gaurantee that.)  For good measure I checked out the suggestion in this thread, about SpyBot making a regestry entry to kill the RDP ActiveX control:
http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/browse_thread/thread/3d07325af6041baa/0a488a2254f17154?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=rww+invalid+server+name+specified#0a488a2254f17154

Suggested fix in the above link was to delete registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850} I did not have that key.

I have a (rather unjustified) gut feeling that forcing the reinstall of the RDC client will fix my problem.  But if I download the standalone installer it won't install because of Window's service pack level.  Anyone know how to force it to do an overlay install?

Or any thing else to try?

Thanks!

Answer : "An invalid server name was specified." error using Remote Web Workplace

1) see if you can get the RDp 6.1 client installed

2) Try to put the computer IE settings for the server as trusted.

I hope this helps !
